3 Things You Need to Consider When Naming Your Business.
Technology is a hell of a thing! You can literally start a business with no money today! All you need is a social media account and you're off to the bank cuz you're about to rake in the big bucks!!!
Ummm.....
If you want to listen to that advice, go right ahead, but seriously, there are specific things you need to consider when you want to start a business and more specifically for this post, we're talking about the things you need to consider when selecting your business name. So before you go run off to print those nice business cards, check out the following tips:
- Does it ring a bell? - When naming a business, consider all your options and say them out loud. Does it roll off your tongue or does it sound like a tongue-twister? Does it sound familiar? Does it sound stickable? (Yea, we make up our own words over here, Lol). What does the name imply that your business offers. You need to pick a name that has the potential to become a household name and withstand the test of time.
- What's the meaning behind the name? - Naming your business is like naming a child. Go through a thorough research process. A lot of fancy French, Latin and Asian words are used in business names. I'm sure you know a few. The foreign names sound exotic, I know, but you don't want your business name to literally translate to "Spicy Tuna Fish" while you're selling something totally unrelated to seafood, do you?
- Reconsider on including your personal name in your business name - If you're as smart as I think you are, you better not include your initials or name in your business name. The thing is, if you name your business "Latisha & Co." your customers will always expect "Latisha" to be somewhere around and would feel some type of way if you send a representative instead of Latisha to their meetings etc. They would feel like they're not important enough to meet her. And let's face it, you'll be so busy running your empire that you would not be available to show up at every meeting so let's not include your name on there.
